How Ice Melt Works
Ice melt can be used to prevent surfaces from icing up, as well as to melt ice that had already accumulated. Ice melt changes the chemical make up of water and ice by interacting with the both to form a liquid brine that will generate heat and melt the ice. This will spread throughout the ice and break up the bond of the ice and pavement, which makes it easier to break up and shovel.
TIPS ON USING ICE MELT:
To maximize the effectiveness of ice melt, follow these tips:
- Lay it Down in Layers: Apply a thin layer of ice melt before the snow or ice accumulates. This will prevent the ice from bonding with the pavement.
- Apply Before Precipitation Freezes: The best time to apply ice melt is before the precipitation freezes. Using PELADOW in NJ before precipitation freezes will prevent ice from forming in the first place.
- Apply Immediately After Clearing Snow: After shoveling or plowing snow, apply ice melt to prevent the remaining moisture from freezing.
- Store in an Airtight Container: Ice melt can absorb moisture from the air, which can reduce its effectiveness. Store it in an airtight container away from moisture, air, and sunlight.
By understanding how ice melt works and following these tips, you can effectively manage ice and snow accumulation, ensuring safety and accessibility during winter weather. Contact our team to learn more about PELADOW in PA.
